Solo Challenge Award

Pressemitteilung von Jules Bänffer

Mini-Sailor Lucas Schröder is  winner of the first Dutch Solo
Challenge Award. The award has been created by the Dutch foundation to reward Dutch solo sailors, to promote
solo sailing in general, and to stimulate developments in this
extreme type of top-sport.

Lucas finished 7th in the Transat 650 at the end of October last
year. That achievement made him the highest ranking Dutchman. The
Transat 650, sailing from France to Brasil, is probably the most
challenging race for these small boats.
The other nominees were Koen van Esch (17th Transat 650), Jelmer Bouw
(27th Transat 650) and Jan Kees lampe (2x Line honours AZAB).

The verdict of the jury was that Lucas had the best all-round
campaign; consisting of excellent sailing, good handling of sleep
deprivation and media presentation.
The jury of the Solo Challenge Award consists of; Henk Bezemer (Dutch
solo-sailor, writer), Jan-Berent Heukensfeldt Jansen (CEO Team ABN
AMRO 2005-2006), Leon Bart (winner multihull classe Ostar 2005) and
Klaartje Zuiderbaan (European Dutch Champion Match-racing 2000).

The Solo Challenge Award was handed to Lucas at the Royal Rowing and
Sailing Club 'De Maas' in Rotterdam, the very same place where the
Team ABN AMRO Boats were baptised.

From now on the Award will be handed out each year to the most
remarkable Dutch solo sailing achievement.
