courses more then other
« on: January 24, 2007, 15:24:20 PM »
what the courses more then other occur with the race?
or this on average = 50% x 50%?
for example:
upwind - 50%
reach - 20%
downwind - 30%

and wind strength

will be super best if you wrote in percent ratio.

for example:
strong wind - 50%
light wind - 45%
still - 5%

thank you for help!

one does not need to be the brain surgent to figure this out. Minis sail about 45°to the wind. if you add the 10° on each side for real close reaching, you see that upwind covers 110°, and downwind at leat another 60°...in that case nearly 180° is covered by upwind / downwind, which is actually 50% of all sailing courses.
The rest of of your question is a joke. Take your routing software, buy 10 years of weather data and do your own climatology. One will not share this valuable data to competitors, so make some effort and work your own...

I don't think he means it is a joke wanting to know it, I think it is more of a joke if you think people are going to give it to you!  People will spend a huge amount, both in money and time to obtain that kind of information so asking them to give it up is a little off, just like asking someone to tell you every single secret about how they got their sponsorship deal.

That said, cool little flash animation, thanks.  You may want to look at the QuickScat pages, they have a daily wind vector for the whole globe at half decent resolution going back 4 or 5 years odd.
