Where is Allessandro's thread?
« on: February 09, 2010, 19:06:30 PM »
Hi Leo,
I can't see Allessandro's thread here anymore.
What happened, we ought to be following this guy really closely & now we have lost him?

bad bad luck for Alessandro. As he was approaching the Horn, he was hit by a severe storm and dismasted the 30st of march.

He will not reach his goal, but he will probably set a record of the longest distance non stop on such a little boat.

That's great news, I am following his progress a bit although updates sometimes take a wile.
Already a great achievement so far, lets hope he will get back home with his repaired mast.
Yves Parlier did something similar in the vendee globe I believe, that was some years ago though.

Yes  Y. Parlier rebuilt his mast and sailed back to les Sables during the Vendée Globe, but it is something else  to cross the atlantic back on a 60 or on a mini... especially with a broken mast.

Allessandro is almost 'home'.
Only 200 miles to go.
What kind of reception will be waiting for him?
No mention on any sites I have checked.
We ought to be ready to celebrate this achievement -  A true Corinthian RTW, SH, non-stop voyage - The first for many years in the tradition of Robin Knox-Johmston, Francis Chichester & Chay Blyth
