Thats by French law, so would that mean for all participants, even if I'm an Aussie?

One would expect non-french citizens to be subject to french law when in France... that may apply to racing also.
And, may be, even to Aussies... ;-)

I'm sure they can make an exception if the Aussie is legal... *cough*

Thanks for the responses, sarcastic and serious. :/
and I do now see it was a stupid question.

Are there any races in Mini's that allow under 18's to sail in them, like some double-handed ones or something?

I don't know what French law says, but the class rules are clear enough.  Rule R-6-b says:

"Competitors less than 18 years of age must provide a certificate of parental consent."

I suggest you call Sandrine or Annabelle at the Classe Mini office.  They will probably be able to tell you whether you will be able to participate in practice.

Remember that to do the Transat you will need to have your 1,000 miles racing (in Class events) first - so as you point out, you do need to confirm that all the other races will take an under-18.  The first one might be the hardest - after that there will be a clear precedent.

Good point, Bruce, thanks for looking that up, clarifies the point in a better way than I tried. Cheers!

(actually forgot that point existed... *hides under a stone*)

I am looking back over this topic now, does this point mean that if one was under 18 and had parental consent that they would be able to do it?

That's the way I read it, although I confess I haven't checked whether the rule has changed in the 2011 version of the rules.
How old are you?

All good I have contacted the Mini Accosiation and they said you can with parental permission.  But it doesn't matter anymore because I figured that when I aim to do it I will be over 18.

That was pretty likely in the first place :P

Good luck with it anyway, Jordan! If you ever need prep help, feel free to contact me.

Yes always was pretty likely.  Are the mini's every year as I understand it or are they every two years?
