TRANSAT-2011 - Weather prediction for Brazilian coast (link fixed)
« on: September 02, 2011, 13:28:31 PM »
Hi,

The other post had problems with the link. Now it is fixed.
This is the site I used to use to race in Brazilian coast (Regatta RECIFE-NORONHA).

http://previsaonumerica.cptec.inpe.br/golMapWeb/DadosPages?id=GLB213

As you can find out, the wind used be always SE. The wind will die during the nigth and will build-up at end of the morning. The current is always 0,5 to 1 knot from north to south.

The best course used be a line from Fernando de Noronha to Salvador.
======================================================================================
Fernando de Noronha-PE: 700 miles from finish: trade winds-SE   10-25 knots

======================================================================================
RECIFE-PE: 400 miles from finish - wind-SE 10-20 knots

http://previsaonumerica.cptec.inpe.br/meteogramas/faces/meteo.jsp?modelo=T213L42&data=0&cidade=03453W0809S

=====================================================================================
ARACAJU-SE: 150 miles to finish - wind-SE  10-15 knots

After Aracaju (100 miles ), the wind used to die and shift to SE-E.

OBS: take care to not hit aground (a lot of people did it)  - Do it with a protection-route (just a route with the brasilian Coast, so the XTE will be your distance to the coast) in your GPS.

=====================================================================================
SALVADOR-BA: finish - wind-SE-E  5-15 knots

After Farol da Barra, in the bay of All Saints (2.5  miles to the finish line - 41 Rmag - last leg - take care to not be so close to shore because there is a lot of high building and hill blocking the wind). Tide is  1.5 knots at most high tide.

I hope it could be a little bit.

Best regards
