Just a quick update now that I'm back home from San Francisco. "Skyweb Express" (USA 655) crossed the finish line in front of the Golden Gate Yacht Club at approximately 1915 PST, where Craig and Tom were greeted by the enthusiastic shouts of the West Coast Race ground crew. Rounding the breakwater, the team brought the boat alongside the guest dock at the St. Francis Yacht Club where they were met by myself, Bad Idea and his wife, and another Anarchist who read about the race on SA and came down to watch the finish, meet the sailors and take pictures of the boat. The crew looked terrific but were eager to get a shower and a hot meal, and so were whisked inside the St. Francis by the shore team after putting the boat to bed for the night.

Meanwhile, Andy and Adrian have passed to the south of Pt. Reyes and should be approximately 15-20 miles from the finish line, sailing at a little over 6 knots. In an earlier phone conversation with Adrian, he reported that they had been sailing in winds in excess of 30 knots, with big seas the entire day, but making good speed in the daylight hours, when they could at least sea the waves. Conditions should have moderated somewhat once they made it south of Pt. Reyes but we were still seeing 20+ knots in the approach to the Golden Gate Bridge earlier this evening, with some fog rolling in.

Bad Idea and his wife are standing by at the Golden Gate YC waiting for a firm ETA on "Antidote" but at this time we expect them to finish within the next 3 hours if wind conditions hold.

I will post more information as soon as it becomes available.

Regards.

Skipper Andy Able and crew Adrian Blunt crossed the finish line at 0306 PST on July 17, 2008 to take the runner-up spot in the 2008 West Coast Race for Mini 6.5's. Andy and Adrian, sailing the brand new Zero series "Antidote" (CAN 726), endured a rough last day at sea but dug deep to perservere. They tied up behind "Skyweb Express" at the St. Francis YC guest dock, where they were met by Bad Idea and his wife, who got them safely squared away and installed in a nearby hotel for a much needed rest.

On behalf of the Race Committee and sponsors, I would like to congratulate Andy and Adrian for their gutsy effort and for driving hard all the way to the end. We will have more to report later today as we meet with the skippers and transfer the boats to Svendsen's Marine in Alameda.

We would also like to thank the St. Francis Yacht Club for their outstanding hospitality and support in hosting our competitors overnight. This was a last minute request as we determined that it would be better for the crews to rest up rather than continue on to Svendsen's after their finish. The St. Francis management and staff were totally accommodating and could not have done more to make the crews feel welcome.

Regards.
