What happened at the meeting?  I thought Li-ion batteries and sails materials would be hot topics, but I guess they've been overshadowed by the oversubscription/qualification issue.

I need some new sails so I'm eager to find out if kevlar mains will be allowed.

no change about Li-ion or sail materials.
change will be made to allow kite like sails and to allow easier use of the life raft.

Hi Leo & others,

For those needing to buy a life-raft, any changes made at the AG to the approved ISO specs?
Do you have a current list of acceptable models & manufacturers?
I hear the lightweight 10k raft is no longer in production but is being sold if you can find them.

What changes may be made to existing Series design requirements to meet new rules?

Thanks,

Adrian

So dacron mains are definately the rule for 2008?  I thought there was a good chance this was going to change.

And kites as in www.kiteship.com?

How long after the meeting could we expect to see published rules?

Bryan,

I didn't hear about any changes, but anyhow the 2007 rule does allow pentex, so it's not dacron only... for head sails, you can have pentex laminates (including "string" sails) but for the main, it's woven only (in Europe something called Pentex HTP is pretty common)

Geoff, ask the CM at the PBS, and let us know :)
I was not at the AG, and do not know what came out.
Only thing i heard was the boat needs a kind of funnel/ramp for the liferaft, so its easier to get it out, and very close to the transom...

Keep a look out at the CM site, for news...

There was actually talks about fixing the liferaft at maximum 10cm from the hatch with guides on the top and the bottom to help it go out. People discused other option especially for new boats.
Following those talks the rules will be modified and the final version shall come out on January 15th.

Hi Leo et al,

OK, will do - I'm meeting Charles Euverte tomorrow, he should have a pretty good idea of the changes. I also want to find out if Kites (eg. KiteShip) have been OK'd, wouldn't mind trying one.

Cheers

It'll be interesting to see the first boat "sailing" without a mast (and bulb) at all,
using 8 different kites only ...

The following is quoted from a recent email:

...
The new rules for 2008 will be announced very soon on Classe Mini website.  There are a lot of changes:  liferaft box, companionway door, and box rule height will be opened for kite sails. And other details, that I don’t remember now.

...
Best regards
