Title: Good Starter Boat
Post by: NickM on July 11, 2013, 15:26:03 PM
Hi Guys, A bit of advice please! Is a Pogo 1 a good starter boat or is it well past its "sell by date". Also, is now a good time to buy or will more boats come on the market after the transat? I am really looking for anyone who can help me with some guidance into getting into mini racing in uk and near Europe please contact me. Thanks Nick  ???

Hi Nick,
Any Mini is a good "starter boat", as I don't assume you're looking to sell the boat again any time soon. Pogo1s are generally a bit less expensive than some other more recent series boats, but the same goes for old protos, so it really depends on what you find. Quality wise any older boat needs to be checked on, especially if it has done one or two Transats before. Apart from that, while a P1 won't get you sailing in the top of any Mini race it's not "past its 'sell by' date" either.

Yes, there will be more boats on the market after the Transat, but now isn't a bad time either. Boats are generally low in price right now, especially as the financial crisis isn't over at all.

Cheers,
Thomas

I have a mini for sale - berthed in Plymouth UK.
It would make a good starter boat. Proto sail no. 337
